el gato y el murciélago
(THE CAT AND THE BAT)
Intersección Gallery
Fábrica la Aurora, San Miguel de Allende, Gto.
February 2 to April 15, 2019
Víctor Hugo Pérez comes from the city of Guadalajara, that perennial haunt of talented artists. In 2019 he once again brought a demonstration of his artistic talent to San Miguel, demonstrating his proficiency at expressing his provocative perspective as an exciting outsider or marginalized representative in the world of art. This exhibit in particular includes and emphasizes his love of cats and dogs. Taking inspiration from his own pets’ behavior, we see a cat stalking birds, fighting with roosters, or curling up affectionately on a loved one’s chest.
Various oil paintings with heavy, emotive strokes are combined masterfully on canvas. Exquisite, transparent watercolors lead us into Víctor Hugo’s world. The exhibit is crowned with a number of sculptures, executed magnificently in bronze, all mined from the artist’s imaginarium. Victor Hugo’s love of domestic life doesn’t stray from his characteristic sense of humor with consistently wicked undertones.
